"What motivated the founders of the New Internationalist magazine was a high idealism; a real sense that we could change things; that if people knew the facts about what was going on, then they could actually have the wherewithal to campaign and try to make the world a better place."
- Troth Wells - one of the founders of the New Internationalist cooperative
"The New Internationalist is exactly the sort of intelligent, committed and progressive publication which here at The Chaser, we strongly disapprove of."

Cajun

Putumayo journeys to the bayous of Louisiana for this joyous collection of French-American party music. The follow-up to 1999's Zydeco, one of the best-selling albums in Putumayo's history, Cajun focuses on another fascinating genre - Louisiana music. Cajun appeals to fans of folk, country, Americana and world music.

Today's Cajuns trace their roots to the early French-speaking colonists of Acadia, in what is now Nova Scotia, Canada. Forced out of the region by the British in 1755, the Acadians (who became known as Cajuns) migrated to Louisiana, bringing with them their music, traditions, and language. The gutsy reels and tantalizing two-steps of Cajun music have filled barn dances for years, and have had an indelible impact on the face of Louisiana's music.

Cajun celebrates America's own world music and is an energetic, homegrown collection that is sure to please anyone who loves great party music. The contagious melodies and rhythms of Cajun music will have people dancing the night away, or as they say in Cajun country, "Laissez les bon temps roulez!"
